A book I reread over and over and still enjoy. Knowing the most important plot device ahead doesn't spoil it, but if you don't know it (and haven't seen the wonderful movie), you'll get a special delight from this great story. It's an unabashedly romantic book. The construction of the story (moving back and forth between the two separate lives of the hero) is jarring at first, but supremely effective.

This is a book for people who love The Time Traveler's Wife and books like it. It's a true romance novel but not in the guise of a Regency Romance-type.

The plot follows a soldier who loses his memory during combat in WWI, but finds a new life and love. When his former memory returns he forgets his new life but always seems to know there is something missing. The 1942 film with Ronald Colman and Greer Garson is a great piece of film-making, but differs from the novel in one major point. The twist in the novel comes in the last sentence, but the movie couldn't have kept it from the viewer that long.
