I’ve always loved James Herriot’s stories but this collection takes the cake. The gorgeous color photographs at the beginning of each section really serve to help the reader understand exactly how remote and wild the Dales were during Herriot’s career. Heck, they probably haven’t changed all that much since. Also enjoyable are the sketches and sidebars that show little details of farm life.

I enjoyed reading this book. I also like that it has several pictures, and interesting snippets of info (in the columns) with drawings. A great read for animal lovers.
