Great Book, I just wish it was an actual book...reading online can be difficult.
An unlikely story of friendship, affection, and admiration between two people from two very different worlds - an excellent read.
Loved this book! Had to pick a book for school read this one and it became my favorite! Surprise ending tissues a must!
I found Summer of My German Soldier to be both heart-breaking and thought provoking. This is not a light story with a happy ending, but it is realistic and, thankfully, the reader is left with some hope for Patty’s future.
The most ironic book ever, an American Jewish falling in love with a German Nazi.
I found this book a little intense--I would not recommend it for children under fourteen, even though the heroine is twelve. I also think it is unrealistic that a 12 year old would fall in love with a 20-something guy, German or not. Patty's parents, especially her father, are unkind and violent; apparently, her father beats her on a regular basis. I don't think it's necessary to put that kind of fractured home situation into a children's book.
The ending was also depressing. No happy endings here! There is a suggestion at the end that things might work out for Patty in the long run, but it left me with a lot of unanswered questions.
Altogether, not a favorite.
