This story cannot be described with words. Most obviously, it is a compelling story of Jews in hiding from the Nazis. But below that, it is the story that everyone goes through: the story of a teenage girl growing up and discovering herself. The fact that this teenage girl was one of the most insightful people for her age just adds to the astounding quality of this book. Anne, in the midst of horrific circumstances, still manages to keep up her spirit and grow and develop. It tears away the blind that kept concentration camps bearable, the stubborn refusal of the mind to think of Jews as people. Anne was an extraordinary young woman whose promise and amazing life were stolen from her by the hands of ignorance and blind hate. The legacy her diary left will continue to inspire people forever. Let us hope that we choose to learn from her, to stamp out hate and ignorance once and for all.

I am not sure what caused me to pick up this book, but I am so glad I did. I had never read it before, although I knew the story well - or at least I knew the gist of the story (that they lived in hiding until they were found, arrested and sent to concentration camps). It is so interesting to see the deep thoughts of a 13-15 year old (even if she did go back through later in their stay to edit some of her previous entries - she was still at most fifteen years old). The maturity, the turmoil, the life lived - and taken way too early. I appreciate that there are entries about "young love" and tiffs with her parents, while at the same time thoughts on politics and war. Every few pages I had to remind myself of the "ending"... that she wasn't lucky enough to survive, that she would never see the fruition of her work, that she would die at the hands of the Nazis and never get to follow her dreams or grow up.

Anne Frank's Diary is inspiring itself and it was sad she didn't see the end of WW2. She wondered if her diary became famous and it did.

I'm really looking forward to reading this - I just read Number the Stars (Lois Lowry) and I loved it. I'm hoping I'll love this too! (I'm pretty sure I will.)

Very touching.

When Anne Frank wrote this diary, she had no idea she would inspire generations of people. Though her story has a heartbreaking ending, her courage through it all is incredibly uplifting.
