This is a powerful and heartbreaking story. Truddi Chase was sexually, physically and psychologically abused by her stepfather beginning at the age of 2, yes 2!. She was also physically and psychologically abused by her mother. Her only means of survival was to develop multiple personalities, 92 of them, and they protected her mind and prevented her from remembering the horror that was her life. But she was left with a constant unexplained fear and mistrust of others. As an adult, she sought help from Dr. Robert A. Phillips, Jr., who, through therapy, helped her personalities to become aware of each other and to work together to allow Truddi to remember the abuse and to fill the gap that was her past. She allowed him to videotape her therapy sessions and show them to his students, so that others would benefit from her experiences. Her "troops" wrote a manuscript, compiled daily throughout her therapy, which helped to reveal their different personalities. Most of the book is taken from the manuscript.
