Bold, wise and poignant! A must read, either before or after watching the film.

This brief, poignant book is the closest we can get into the soul of later James Baldwin without having a complete book by Baldwin himself. Comprised not only of the script from the documentary film of the same name, but also introductions from many people involved in the creation of that film, this book acts as a wonderful primer for the film. It also gives any reader, whether they plan to view the film or not, a lot of thoughtful insight into the world in which Baldwin found himself in later years. Be sure to set aside many hours for this book—while the reading is quick, the post-read thinking will last much longer.
