This movie is about a tragedy and the unjust that followed. The only problem I had with the movie that the visual effects could had been done better. Never the less, it was a good movie.

This falls under the category "bad Hollywood movies". It could have been good, even great but they totally blew it. The acting is questionable, characters are all over the place. This is 130 minutes wasted, no star there for sure.

Very sad that this amazing story is so little known. It certainly needs a bigger place in the history books! Nicolas Cage did very well in his part. It is atrocious the way Captain McVay (Nic Cage's role) was treated!! I agree with the other comment about how we treat our veterans. this story needs to be seen!!

The story is true but the movie falls way short of doing justice to the incident.
Most people don't realize the story was mentioned in the film Jaws. The Robert Shaw character relates his story of being on a ship that was sunk during WWII. The ship was the Indianapolis and a great many of the sailors in the water were the victims of shark attacks.

The story is not written well as a screen play. The CGI effect look exactly like CGI effects done on the cheap. For 3/4 of the film the acting is sub par. I would suggest a lot of the young male actors spent more time at drama school rather than the gym.

More effort should have been spent on the court martial of the captain. There were interesting aspects of the trial not even mentioned in the film.

I did not know this was based on a true story until I read more about the story. It's really sad how we treat our veterans.

A shame that this titan of a story was lamed and hobbled by Hollywoods lack of funding. Real money could've told a story that resonated with not just Americans but people of the world....the cost of war. This could've been great. Peebles, Cage, and Sizemore all have wowed me over the years, and they simply cannot save a poorly funded project like this. Shame.

A docudrama based on a true compelling Naval episode towards the end of WW II but somehow managed to be delivered monotonously. The film was divided in two halves, first about carrying out a non-eventful top secret mission, and, second, the ghoulish survival at sea. In between the shabby special effects, were a few human stories behind the event. Too bad that the mano-a-mano heart-to-heart talk and seeing the faces of the surviving veterans with a few actual military footage at the very end was the best part of the entire film. Worth a watch as a history lesson though easier, better and faster to read all about this from other sources.

As a commander in the Imperial Japanese Navy, it was my duty to kill you. But as a man... I have regrets.
-I had a good idea of what we were carrying. I, too, did my duty. But as a man... I find no... honor in it.
I often wonder how things would be if I had stopped you before you completed your mission.
-We have learned to forgive each other as former adversaries. Perhaps one day... we can forgive ourselves as men.

Charlie, how can you have an escort? You were never here.

For the secret mission, we are in effect a glorified postal service delivering two packages
with no protection, ...
