A debut entry in a new trilogy by the author of the Jenna Fox Chronicles introduces Princess Lia, who flees an unwanted marriage and expectations about her supernatural legacy only to be pursued by her jilted fiancé and a ruthless assassin.

McMillan Palgrave

In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia's life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight—but she doesn't—and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring kingdom—to a prince she has never met.

On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deception abounds, and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—even as she finds herself falling in love.
The Kiss of Deception is the first book in Mary E. Pearson's Remnant Chronicles.

Another YA Fantasy about a princess? At first I was skeptical, but this was actually a really good read. The pacing is slower, switching between three different characters and telling the tale of a princess who runs away from her arranged marriage to live a normal life. If you like action packed books, this won't really be for you, as the story is more focused on drama and characters than plot, and follows the relationship developing between the princess and two boys she meets. Obviously, that also means this is more a romantic fantasy than anything else. Still, an enjoyable read with appropriate content for young adults. Its well written, and the characters are lovely.

If you read this book, you should listen to the song of, "King" by Lauren Aquilina.

OMG such a good book! But, before you read: Kaden is the Assassin, Rafe is the Prince. I swear, I went most of the book thinking the opposite. I wish someone had told me this!

I absolutely adored this book because of the strong heroine. It may sound like a bad book when it says one boy is a prince another one an assassin trying to kill her. However, the romance was impeccable. One that easily rivals the romance in the Red Queen series. I'm very glad there are two books after this one otherwise, I don't know what I would do.

This is one of my new favorite teen series. I just read book one and two again and cannot wait for book 3 to arrive. This book has action, romance and a touch of fantasy. Love it!

Kiss of deception was a really good book! I'm not much of a long novel girl, but i must say that i really loved it! Lia the young princess was so strong and fearless, I really appreciate that the other made the lead female strong and brave. I enjoyed the romance, and the book took crazy turns, drawing you in more and more. In the end I was totally wrong about who was who, which made it all the more better. I recommend this book to teen girls and am really exited for the second book!

Very poorly written, the boys especially. Too bad, because the summary/plot/idea had so much potential. I loved the main character, Lia, and I liked the book up until the two love interests were introduced. Then I just skimmed the rest to find out what happened. I will not be reading the next one.

Kiss of Deception has everything the most popular books have, like a prince, an assassin, a strong runaway princess, but the guys (who make up a large portion of the plot) are just so, so bad...and I feel like the stronger, darker emotions of the novel weren't handled well. The grief, shame, and confusion the characters felt was not strong enough to feel real. But this may be because after reading the Throne of Glass series, nothing can really compare.
