This young readers' version of the recent documentary film's companion adult volume cuts the page count by about a third but preserves the original's cogent message and many of its striking visuals. After explaining that his interest in the environment predates even his mother's reading of Silent Spring aloud to him as a teenager, Gore proceeds to document steeply rising carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere, and then to link that to accelerating changes in temperature and precipitation patterns worldwide. Using easy-to-grasp graphics and revealing before-and-after photos, he shows how glaciers and ice shelves are disappearing all over the globe with alarming speed, pointing to profound climate changes and increased danger from rising sea levels in the near future. O'Connor rephrases Gore's arguments in briefer, simpler language without compromising their flow, plainly intending to disturb readers rather than frighten them. He writes measured, matter-of-fact prose, letting facts and trends speak for themselves but, suggesting that "what happens locally has worldwide consequences, " he closes with the assertion that we will all have to "change the way we live our lives." Like the film, this title may leave readers to look elsewhere for both documentation and for specific plans of action, but as an appeal to reason it's as polished and persuasive as it can be.

I am not going to state that the previous comment is garbage, but list a series of websites that explain the failings of Mr. Gore's wild theories. Even if you don't like the sources (and especially considering that science is not uniform in its conclusions), at least give them the benefit of the doubt and listen to their arguments and facts:;;;;

Simply put, a great amount of the material in this book has been debunked. It is not a reliable source for information on the subject, and I would not recommend that anyone read this.

Most scientists now agree with what this book says. Global warming is happening and has been caused by man.

(Challenge to redban: provide proof to back up your absurd numbers, please. By the way, cavemen don't exist.) Science is not consensus, yet, after so much being proved against Mr. Gore’s “global warming” alarmist hysteria, I was surprised to find this book in a reading list. Also, one must consider the fact that Mr. Gore is NOT a scientist, but a mere ex-politician, with no formal scientific training or methodology. Not for serious readers, who believe in science first. It is interesting of note the fact that Mr. Gore belongs to the political side that discards Judeo/Christian faith as pure ignorance since it can’t be proven by science, yet embraces anthropogenic “global warming,” something many scientists have proven does not exist (refer to "Similar Titles" for more info). “Official British Court Finds 11 Inaccuracies in Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, Labels It As Political Propaganda”:
