This is a beautifully written and illustrated children's book for lovers of nature. The author captures the innocence, grace, and struggle of various animals as they hunt for food before winter arrives. The language is simple but meaningful and even poetic at times such as when the narrator remarks: "My father says animals are true to themselves."

The illustrations in this book are a feast for the eyes, as each page is a sweeping terrain of intense color and light, bursting with climbing branches, swirling leaves, and glowing wildlife. The book conveys a true appreciate for nature and animals and emphasizes the importance of being a watchful and gentle observer like the young girl in this story, full of wonder as she sketches pictures from her tree house.

Wish I would have had a wooden platform in the woods to look down upon the wildlife like the little girl did in the story. That would have been such a spectacular view . And so fun !
