Remember when that video of a sneezing baby panda swept the internet? This picture book (by superstar author Neil Gaiman) follows that idea to a delightfully absurd conclusion. A round little panda in an aviator helmet, Chu is hardly an imposing figure. But since "bad things happen" when he sneezes, Chu's every sniff is infused with suspense. Using a hyper-realistic style to depict a whimsical world, illustrator Adam Rex amps up both the humor and the eye-catching colors. Kids who fall in love with Chu won't want to miss his further exploits in Chu's First Day of School and Chu's Day at the Beach.

A quick read with great illustrations. Good for Toddlers and preschoolers. They really enjoy it if you ham it up and make a big deal of amost sneezing.

A good opportunity to make fun sound effects! Will tickle your toddler!

Chu is a young panda who has bad things happen when he sneezes. With this fact begins the suspenseful build towards the big event. Just how destructively massive will Chu's sneeze be? We go to a library with dusty books. Chu is able to restrain himself. We go to a diner with pepper in the air. Chu manages to hold back, but trouble begins to brew at the circus.

The ending is too rush!

Cute, but the text is slight and relies too much on the illustrations. Also, Chu is a panda in image only. As far as the story goes he could just as easily be a human, a puppy, an elephant . . .

I thought the story was going to be quite good; it really seemed to be building up steam but then the ending just flopped. I agree... disappointing.

Disappointing, considering the author.

The actual story is run of the mill but the illustrations are really entertaining!
