This story covers a 20 year span and follows a young Trinidadian woman named Marcia as she struggles to raise her children while coping with the on again/off again relationship of their father. Marcia is a strong, independent and interesting character. The book is full of the sights, sounds and customs of Trinidad and the author also manages to weave a bit of Trinidad's history into the story as well. A good choice if you like family sagas.

I almost stopped reading 'Til the Well Runs Dry about 1/3 of the way in. I thought the novel was going in a certain direction, and would be predictable. I was wrong. I think the story is well told, and has many thought provoking threads throughout the story. I think most readers would find it worthwhile.

An unusual and fascinating setting for this story : Trinidad. I f you want to learn about the history and the inhabitants of this Island , this is the book to pick. However, the colloquial language in the dialogues hampers the flow of the novel.
Realism at its best : the USA is far from being a dream land for some immigrants. Ms Francis-Sharma has the courage and talent to show it.
