"International superstar Yrsa Sigurdardottir has captivated the attention of readers around the world with her mystery series featuring attorney Thora Gudmundsdottir. Now, Yrsa will stun readers once again with this out-of-this-world ghost story that will leave you shivering. In an isolated village in the Icelandic Westfjords, three friends set to work renovating a rundown house. But soon, they realize they are not as alone as they thought. Something wants them to leave, and it's making its presence felt. Meanwhile, in a town across the fjord, a young doctor investigating the suicide of an elderly woman discovers that she was obsessed with his vanished son. When the two stories collide, the terrifying truth is uncovered. In the vein of John Ajvide Lindqvist, this horrifying thriller, partly based on a true story, is the scariest novel yet from Yrsa Sigurdardottir, who has taken the international crime fiction world by storm"--

I really, really liked this book! It had all of the necessary elements of a good story - relationship dynamics, scary, suspense, love, revenge, business dynamics, etc. You name it - it was included!
The chapters alternated back and forth between characters whose stories eventually merged in the end. And each chapter ended with a cliff-hanger of action, that you’d want to read on to find out what happened in the successive alternating chapter.
It was very well written, suspenseful, and outside of ghosts, it wasn’t too far-fetched. The only reason I gave it 4.5 stars vs. 5 is because the author would write chapters that would begin with quotations, but it wouldn’t mention who was saying it. A person’s name might be included somewhere in the paragraph, but it didn’t necessarily identify them as the speaker. The name would mention some action they’d taken. This made me have to go back and re-read the paragraph to figure out who was speaking.
I personally loved the ending. It shows how small our world sometimes is.

I'm not that crazy about ghost stories but this book definitely had a creepy atmospheric setting that worked for the plot. I thought it was well-written. Worth the read.

This is an original page turner! The book starts out lighthearted and gradually feels heavier. You develop empathy for the characters and get to know the characters well. The book is intense and exciting. So this is not the best choice if you are looking for a relaxing bedtime read. The book listed as "Suspense" seems to fall under several genres including horror, paranormal/ghosts, mystery suspense crime fiction....

Probably one of the eeriest books I've ever read. A page-turner.

A scary fun read. The author built suspense by switching between two story lines at key points. Can't wait to check out her other titles.

Two parallel stories that come together in the end. A very scary and riveting book.

I rarely read "ghost" stories but I am very glad that I read this one. Along the lines of Henry James' Turn of the Screw, this marvelous book is suspenseful, intriguing and remains with you for days afterwards.
