As cliche as it sounds, everyone knows someone suffering from an eating disorder. Indeed, anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia and distorted body image wreak havoc among both young women and boys. Most tragically, these illnesses often go undiagnosed and remain notoriously difficult to treat, the average recovery period being 5-7 years. In "8 Keys to Recovery From an Eating Disorder," Costin, a renowned therapist, and Grabb, her former patient and now herself a psychotherapist, share their stories of suffering from and eventually overcoming severe eating disorders. This brave and hopeful book combines difficult personal narrative and the intimacies of a therapist-client relationship. The authors take readers through guilt, shame and fear and not only offer great insight into how to beat this formidable illness/addiction, but also supply the motivation to do so. It needs a place on the shelf of everyone who suffers from this affliction, directly or indirectly.
