I love Dumbo even though the Pink Elephants sequence still freaks me out. Also, as I child I had no idea that he was supposed to be drunk in that because of the bubbles and I thought he was sick from drinking soap.

Hello, darlings! - Can you believe an elephant that can fly!?? Well, Dumbo is pure animated fun for all ages.

Released in 1941 (at the height of WW2) - Dumbo is the fourth animated feature film produced by Disney Studios. At only 64 minutes - it is one of Disney's shortest animated features. This film was completed on a budget of just under $1 million.

Dumbo's simple story about a semi-anthropomorphic elephant is loosely based upon the book written by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Pearl.

As the story goes - Jumbo Jr. (the new baby elephant at the circus) quickly finds himself cruelly nicknamed "Dumbo" (as in "dumb"), as he is ridiculed for his big, floppy ears.

Dumbo soon discovers that he is, in fact, capable of flying by using his big ears as wings.

Throughout most of the film - Dumbo's only true friend (aside from his mother) is the mouse, Timothy, which is a relationship parodying the stereotypical animosity between mice and elephants.

Now 86 years old - All-in-all - Dumbo is enjoyable family entertainment from yesteryear.

Dumbo is hard to recommend. On the one hand, the art quality is pretty good for its age. On the other, there is a disturbing animation scene involving elephants and some very offensive birds.

Recommended age is also difficult to decide. The target audience is young children, but the questionable content is probably unsuitable given modern cultural trends for anyone younger than 8.

Watch it to say you've seen it, but don't be super excited about what's in store.

The elephant that could fly.

Dumbo is a definite Disney cartoon favourite of mine. It is a real family classic.

This is a charming, beautifully animated story about an outcast circus-elephant with big ears who learns that he can fly.

Dumbo has everything - personable animals, a poignant story and a truly happy ending. This wonderful movie is good fun for young and old, and it can still invoke a tear, or two, in the right places.

You can't beat a circus Elephant and his friend the circus mouse. This movie has been a favorite of mine since I was a small kid and saw it a Saturday Matinee. Great fun for the entire family!
