I was not going to put children's books on my summer reading list, but it took three weeks to read this wonderful story aloud to my two sons. We've been reading the series off and on from the beginning over the last two years... and thankfully they love the stories of Oz as much as I have. I don't remember reading this episode when I was a child... but the wonder and marvel of Oz as seen through a poor farmer and his wife (Uncle Henry and Aunt Em) from Kansas is a wonderful read... and the discovery of the Fairy Land for them is interspersed with the Gnome King's desire to take over/ruin Ozma and Oz... it's quite the tale!
