I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The characters are alive and full of human weaknesses. Enger's writing style is rich and left me wanting more.

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. The story is really interesting. The characters are quirky, almost McMurtry like.

This is an admirable follow-up to the Minnesota author's million-seller "Peace Like A River." An enjoyable road trip tale through the American West in 1915, the writing is rich and the characters are intriguing and meaningful.

I really enjoyed this story. I have never read this author before. I compare it a bit to Alex Miller's books, although I have only just started reading some of his too. Although I rarely read books in American settings, this story could be in Australia or any country. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. All the characters had a life of their own. It was a mystery to the end. Thank You Library. I look forward to seeing Leif's other book on the shelf, in English soon: 'Peace Like a River'

Set in the West in 1915 and involving a journey, Enger takes a writer with writer's block, Monte Becket, and Glendon Hale, a man with a sketchy past on a journey to find the love of Glendon's life, a woman known as Blue. It reads like a potboiler in a way, but is so full of characters you'll love getting to know and lots of writerly references that will make any fan of fiction smile.

If you've cowboys or cowgirls in your past, you'll love this tale. If you think taking a trip may help you find yourself, you may be right. I just felt disconcerted that the book's title didn't relate to a principal character.

A cracking good adventure tale, full of winking outlaws and relentless villains. In 1915, an aging bank robber is trying to right his past by making amends to the woman he left behind forty years earlier, and a struggling novelist joins him in his quest.
