The story is just a framework to get Liz and Dick together again. She has a home-schooled brat she is teaching a reverence for life, etc., etc. When the kid shoots a deer, out of season, John Law puts him in Burton's school, and a good thing, too, as Liz's teaching is obviously not taking hold. (She doesn't see it that way, though.)

But the kid drops out of the story pretty fast. There is a lot of gorgeous photography of the Big Sur country, and interesting location shooting of Orson Welles's hamburger joint, Nepenthe. Liz is said to be living in a "shack" on the beach, which, believe me, would cost you millions now. But the most unbelievable thing is, Burton beats up Charles Bronson! It's hard to imagine how improbable that looks. The movie introduces "The Shadow of Your Smile."

Not great, but a good soaper, with plenty of star power, and a topless bust of LT.
