I can't review this book without discussing major spoilers in the plot. Be warned! :-)

This may be the best book in the "Legacy of the Force" series so far. Jacen Solo finally begins to exert power as new Sith Lord Darth Caedus and the Jedi and other heroes finally accept that Han and Leia's son is now their enemy. It took a long time (five books) to get here, but we have finally reached the central conflict that drives this nine-book story. Luke Skywalker's son Ben is the only person so far to have deduced that Jacen/Caedus killed Ben's mother Mara Jade Skywalker in the fourth book, and is teetering on the edge of the dark side of the Force himself in his desire to make Jacen/Caedus pay for his crime. Meanwhile, the lengths to which Jacen/Caedus is willing to go to bring his version of peace to the galaxy is truly horrifying. There are lots of battles, several atrocities, and a truly spectacular lightsaber duel that is one of the best I've read in a long time.
