As someone who struggles to read, I found this book very easy to get into, it builds a world in magnificent ways which allows the reader to continue to delve into the story. Can't wait to start the second book

As a child I never picked this book up and read it. I read it recently and fell in love. I can't wait to find out what happens next!

I was obsessed with this book for a long time. I enjoyed it deeply and now after 10 years I want to read it again.

My brother made me read this when I was 12 and I did not like it. Overall, I found it very depressing, what with doing experiments on children that leaves them catatonic and quick to die. I still feel deeply unsettled just thinking about it.

I first read this 20 years ago, and even as an adult, no one writes children like Philip Pullman. The sense of wonder is immaculate, and the worldbuilding so rich and inviting.

I never managed to read any of the His Dark Materials when I was little - in fact, I had never even heard of the series until the movie The Golden Compass was released. What a shame, because this book is beautifully written, adventurous, and deals with some very grown up themes, making this a great read if you're a kid or just a kid at heart.

This is a beautifully written book, which is much deeper than it appears.

Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy was one of the top 10 banned books from 2000-2010. If you're a fan of Harry Potter or other teen fantasy, celebrate Banned Books Week by reading this epic tale of good vs. evil.

"The Golden Compass" begins as Teenager Lyra, who lives in very ordinary Oxford, England, is swept up into an extraordinary world of steampunk airships, sentient animals, and a secret conspiracy that spans all of creation. As Lyra gets dragged into the inter-dimensional conflict, she begins to realize that her world is not what she thought it was. This book was challenged for its religious and sexual content, all of which is thoughtfully explored as Lyra struggles to figure out what in life is worth fighting for. I highly recommend this series to anyone from mid teens to adults.

Lyra's journey is filled with magic, suspense, and intensity. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy!

This was my very first time reading The Golden Compass, and the book was amazing. It was an action packed book, with many great characters, and you never know what's going to happen next. I couldn't put it down. There are also a couple plot twists that I loved. Overall, I give it 5 stars.
