When the fearless Zoe breaks her arm in a fall, Anna must brave summer camp --- and her debut as a Counselor In Training --- without her best friend. Going it alone is not something Anna is ready for. Cruising along in Zoe's shadow had been comfortable, but now Anna is out in the full glare of the sun. There's no hiding from harsh truths and plenty of people to point them out. Take Karim, the swim instructor, who has suddenly turned gorgeous but obviously hates Anna.

And Anna's new friend and cabinmate Isabel --- rainbow hair, sharp tongue and no boundaries. Sooner or later Anna will have to face another hard truth: things have changed between her and Zoe and there's no going back into the shadows. But where can Anna hide when just being herself isn't nearly enough?

One summer changed a lot for 14 year old Anna. Two best friends, Zoe and Anna have been going to summer camp together for many years, that is until Zoe breaks her arm after falling while doing her usual risky stunts. That leaves poor Anna having to go summer camp alone and being separated with her best friend for a long time. At first, Anna thought that this was going to be the worst summer ever without having Zoe by her side until; she spots a girl with colourful hair and a unique fashion sense, her name is Isabel. Once the girls become friends everything starts to feel different to Anna, she seemed to feel less like Zoe’s sidekick and more determined to be herself and come first in the annual end of the year camp competition rather than second to Zoe. Will she become champion? Or will she be beaten by her other competitors? This book teaches lessons about unconditional friendships and the differences and the complexity of every friendship. I think the title says quite a bit about book and after reading the book you will see that the title was a smart move by Gayle Friesen. This book is especially directed to girls in their early teens but I think it has something for women of all ages, the book combines many relatable situations, adventure, friendship, comedy and a bit of romance.
