Mercy is set in a small Massachusetts town where Cameron MacDonald, a modern incarnation of a Scottish laird, is the handsome, well-respected police chief. In spite of appearances, he's actually quite unhappy & emotionally ill-prepared for the arrival of two unsettling strangers: a long-forgotten cousin, Jamie, who is carrying the body of his adored wife, Maggie, in his truck, & Mia, a beautiful, penniless traveler seeking shelter for herself, her cat Kafka, & her bonsai trees. It is Allie, Cam's calm, competent, & loving wife, a florist, who offers Jamie, who has confessed to the mercy killing of his terminally ill wife, succor & who provides Mia with a job. But, as they say, no good deed goes unpunished, & Allie must contend with Cam & Mia's steamy affair.

I have read many of Jodi's books and Mercy is the book I have least enjoyed. I will continue to read her books as I generally like her style and stories.

I really did not enjoy this book at all. I've read several of her books and always enjoyed them, but I really had trouble with this one - just didn't keep my interest.

I have read most of Jodi Picoult's books and this is by far my favorite. I went through so many emotions when reading this book; anger, love, sadness and joy. It to me was one of her best. I would and do recommend for anyone who loves a good story.

It was ok. I struggled to read it, but wanted to see what happened at the end.

** spoiler alert ** Like all of Jodi Picoult's books it was fantastically written! She has a wonderful way of putting you in the story and seeing what the character sees, feels, wants etc... The title "Mercy" I don't know if it really goes with the book because there are some selfish themes that run throughout the book. For example, the Chief of Police has everything an american man wants and still has an affair. And worst he doesn't seem to think it is hurting anyone. He isn't in love with his wife when she would do anything for him. He really rather annoyed me at some points in the book. The woman he is having an affair with, Mia, is really very selfish as well. She wants to replace Allie, his wife, as if she had never existed. Over all this was a very good book. I couldn't put it down and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading engrossing heartfelt, controversial books.

I just could not get into this book. I lstened on CD and stopped on CD 6. There seemed to be several stories within the story. I have been disappointed in Picoult's books several times lately. Maybe next time!

it was alright, but not one of my favorite from Jodi Picoult.
